History of Tiger Stripe Camouflage
Tiger Stripe camouflage originated during the Vietnam War and was primarily used by U.S. Special Forces and elite South Vietnamese units operating in dense jungle terrain. Unlike standardized military patterns of the time, Tiger Stripe was developed from earlier French and indigenous camouflage designs and featured bold, irregular stripes in green, brown, and black, mimicking the shadows and textures of the jungle. Its non-standardized production led to many unique variations, often handcrafted or locally sourced, giving it a distinctive, almost mythic reputation among soldiers. Over time, it became a symbol of unconventional warfare, tactical prowess, and elite status — influencing military units, collectors, and streetwear culture worldwide.
